The importance of goals and mindsets in endurance sports

Endurance sports are a discipline that not only promotes physical fitness, but also requires mental strength and discipline. The effects of endurance sports are scientifically proven and include a variety of health benefits. These include improving the cardiovascular system, lowering blood pressure, reducing stress and increasing general well-being. For the layperson, however, such changes are often theories that you cannot really do anything with. Without theory, however, practice is more difficult, because the mind needs a reason to get the body moving.

Many people ask themselves why they put themselves through the effort of training, since you can't measure or feel certain results directly. Even if many people understand that it takes time to achieve results, many find it difficult to invest that time, torturing themselves, not really knowing whether there will be positive results, and thus continuing to go on. Many people need a community with which they can motivate themselves, or a mindset/head program.

Target
Goals

Goals and goal setting play an important role here. Goals in endurance sports can be varied: from improving general health, reducing weight (losing weight), setting a personal challenge or simply clearing your head from work, family, etc. in order to forget everyday life for a while while you work out and enjoy nature while jogging outside, for example.

What counts is the tangible result: the feeling after a long run, the visible and measurable improvement in running times or the increased endurance in everyday activities. These tangible successes are what drive and motivate endurance athletes. They are proof that the effort is worth it and that the goals set can be achieved.

It is therefore crucial that people clearly define their personal goals and work towards them. These goals should be realistic, measurable and achievable. They should also be regularly reviewed and adjusted to maintain motivation and encourage progress.

Ultimately, it is the combination of personal goals and the positive health effects of endurance sport that create a sustainable exercise routine. By focusing on what you can feel and measure, endurance sport becomes an enriching experience that goes beyond the physical benefits and also increases mental and emotional wellbeing.

After we have analyzed and set our goals, we can use some techniques to achieve them faster and more effectively and to have more fun and enjoyment in doing so.

One of these techniques is affirmations (beliefs). Our subconscious needs a feeling or some kind of sense to set its processes in motion. It is also like sending your wish to the universe. This produces results that we can feel and therefore compare before and after. This applies to general goal setting , not just in endurance sports.

So that I can say to myself, yes, that is how I feel now, or it used to be like that and now it is like that (positively, of course). Everything else

Example: Improve sleep quality

Affirmations for this could be: I want to fall asleep better, sleep better, wake up feeling fitter, etc.

Result as measured value: I fall asleep better and more soundly after endurance training, I sleep better in general now, I wake up better in the morning.

Topics like "losing weight" - reducing weight until you see and feel results - takes time, repetition when training, and a lot of motivation to do it again and again. So where do I get the motivation from, especially in phases where you experience certain lows? Here you have to ask yourself very clearly why I want to lose weight (to look better, to feel better, to improve my health, etc.). If you know exactly why you are doing something, if the goals are clearly defined, then the motivation often comes automatically or you can keep falling back on it and motivate yourself again and again. At the latest when you see tangible and visible results, the motivation comes even more, and your head gets food for thought, along the lines of... hmm, okay, now it all makes sense why I am doing it. The blockages are removed.

Here are some more effects of endurance sports:

  • Increase your mental well-being by working out, letting off steam, distracting your mind with intense physical activity, allowing yourself to tire out so that your thoughts wander, brood, etc., and by tiring your body, you sleep better (fall asleep better and faster, sleep more deeply, wake up more refreshed).

  • Increase general physical fitness, more stable muscle tone, thereby being more enduring in everyday life and at work and generally increasing well-being.

  • Increased mental and spiritual enhancement, better concentration, alert mind, better memory.

  • Improve cardiac performance, thereby normalizing blood pressure, which is involved in many diseases. The heart is our engine that pumps our lifeblood into the cells, the heart is a muscle that can be trained, more performance = more economical work = better supply of organs, muscles, etc.

  • Reduce or normalize weight. Regular endurance training can also change your metabolism, so eating habits can also change and your body can metabolize food better.

I hope this report will motivate you to do something for your health in this way.
